Privilege – Yvonne Rainer Filmography

€27.00

PRE-ORDER. SHIPS APRIL 2025.

Published as appendix to the Yvonne Rainer Retrospective (November 6-28 2024), organised by Terrassen at Palads Cinema, Copenhagen.

Yvonne Rainer (b. 1934) needs no introduction, one of the great American artists of her generation, she revolutionized dance and choreography in the 1960s. But over a span of two decades (from the early 70s to mid 90s) Rainer also directed seven feature films, all of which are intensely discursive, always inviting the audience to reflect critically with them. Rainer's films are radically diverse and impossible to categorize, as they define their own space between documentary, fiction, performance and the avant-garde. The films have been difficult to access for decades, and when presented they've often been installed on small monitors in big museums. Now they have finally been restored in 4k versions and shown in a retrospective in the fall of 2024 by Terrassen – the first of its kind in Denmark.

The retrospective concludes with the publication of a new Yvonne Rainer filmography. Terrassen has invited Babette Mangolte, Ursula Andkjær Olsen, Mira Adoumier & the Camellia Collective, Emily Wardill, Emily LaBarge, Amelia Groom, Valérie Massadian, Iman Mohammed, Frida Sandström and Yvonne Rainer herself to write about the films.
